Dr Timothy Gatheral
Dr Timothy Gatheral is a clinical research fellow in the department of cardiothoracic medicine, National Heart and Lung Institute, and honorary clinical fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
His clinical background is in respiratory and general internal medicine. He has published papers in both clinical and scientific journals and joined the NHLI in 2009 to commence his PhD studies.
Dr Gatheral undertook his medical training at Cambridge University (Downing College) including an MA in neuroscience. His subsequent training has included posts in Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge and St George’s hospital, London. He obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003 and is a respiratory specialist registrar in the London Deanery training programme.
His current research area involves pathogen induced vascular inflammation in the context of sepsis. His particular interest lies with the pattern recognition receptors NOD1 and TLR4 and their signalling in human tissues.
Dr Gatheral is supported by a British Heart Foundation grant.
