Professor Timothy Evans

Timothy W. Evans MD PhD FRCP FRCA FMedSci is Professor Intensive Care Medicine at Imperial College London, Medical Director of the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust, and Consultant in Intensive Care and Thoracic Medicine in the same institution. Until 2006 he had been Director of Intensive Care services for the Trust for the previous decade.

Professor Evans was an undergraduate at University of Manchester, England, before training in general and pulmonary medicine in the London postgraduate teaching hospitals and at the University of Sheffield. He was Medical Research Council Travelling Fellow to the University of California, San Francisco, from 1984-1985. He was appointed to the National Heart & Lung Institute in 1987, with a clinical appointment at the Royal Brompton and Westminster Hospitals, London.

Professor Evans' interests lie in the acute respiratory distress syndrome, and the vascular biology of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome and sepsis. He has received funding from the Medical Research Council, Wellcome Trust, and the British Heart and British Lung Foundations amongst others. The Unit of Critical Care has supervised 33 higher degrees since 1990, with some 250 peer review publications. He has been a member of the American Thoracic Society for over 20 years and has served the Critical Care Assembly in many different ways during that period. He is also a Council Member of the British Lung Foundation, and has been a Council Member of the British Thoracic Society and European Intensive Care Society. He is currently Academic Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians of London.
