Professor William O Cookson

William Cookson is Professor of Genomic Medicine at Imperial College London, Associate Head of the National Heart and Lung Institute and Campus Dean, Royal Brompton Campus.

Professor Cookson was previously Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Oxford until 2004. He initially trained as a respiratory physician, and for the past twenty years has developed a research group devoted to understanding the genetic causes of asthma and eczema.

He is currently co-ordinator of the GABRIEL Project, a Europe-wide investigation into genetic and environmental causes of asthma.
