Mr William A Mortimer

William Mortimer obtained a degree in Chemistry with Economics at Sussex University and began his career as a researcher on the bench in the Clinical School at the University of Cambridge. He became interested early on in the management side of teaching and research and held a number of posts at Cambridge before becoming the Secretary of the Department of Pathology in 1987. William obtained an MBA in 1993 and won a Fulbright Fellowship in 1995 to study at the University of California.

William moved to Imperial in 2002 to take up the post of Divisional Manager for the Division of Investigative Science in the Faculty of Medicine. He is now Operations Manager for the Department of Medicine.

William is interested in applying business approaches to Higher Education and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute. William is also keen on the professional development of HE administrators and managers and has been an active member of the Association of University Administrators for many years. He is currently Chair of the AUA Board of Studies and sits on the AUA Board of Trustees. In 2010 William was made a Fellow of AUA.
