Dr Yiannis Kyratsis

Yiannis Kyratsis is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Infection Prevention and Management and Head of the International Health Management Collaborative.

His research interests lie in the areas of institutional theory, and particularly institutional change, as well as the diffusion/adoption of complex organisational and technological innovations in health systems and healthcare organisations. He has a particular interest in primary care, intra-professional dynamics triggered by innovation change, adoption and institutionalisation of HCAI related technology, the utilisation of evidence in organisational decision making, implementation of profound institutional change through institutional forgetting and change in professional role identities in health care fields.

Yiannis has extensive experience of conducting research in an international context, particularly in the unique setting of European transition countries. As part of his PhD research project in an exceptional case of multi-country, comparative qualitative inquiry he studied the diffusion, adoption and institutionalisation processes of family medicine-centred primary care reforms in the diverse healthcare settings of five European transition countries, namely, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia, Moldova, Serbia and Slovenia. He undertook research and consultancy work for World Bank funded projects in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Moldova and Turkey. He has worked as a researcher and independent consultant for the World Health Organisation in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Yiannis is a founding member of the EHMA transition countries network. Yiannis has substantial experience in teaching at Executive Development Programmes both within Imperial College and in international settings.

Prior to joining the CIPM Yiannis studied for his MSc and PhD degrees in Health Management at Imperial College Business School being a researcher at the Centre for Health Management. He practised in the field of public health management - food hygiene for two years in the UK as an official veterinary surgeon. Yiannis also holds a DIC and MSc in Health Management from Imperial College Business School and DVM with distinction in Veterinary Medicine from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece.
