Under the direction of Professor Malcolm Parker, the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology was established by Professor Lord Robert Winston in 2001, and undertakes research in all aspects of reproductive biology.

The Institute is located within the new purpose-built 'Wolfson and Weston Research Centre for Family Health' on the Hammersmith campus of Imperial College. Being adjacent to the new Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital, it is ideally placed to facilitate the translation of research into improvements for the treatment of infertility and pregnancy related disorders.

Outstanding molecular and cell biology resources are available and supported by central core services and ‘state-of-the-art’ laboratories.

The Institute provides a centre for research training for postgraduate students and research fellows with opportunities for registration for higher degrees. PhD studentships and post doctorate positions are available. In addition, there are opportunities for postgraduate students to study for an MSc in Reproductive and Developmental Biology.

Research

The complementary expertise of reproductive biologists, molecular biologists and clinical researchers provides superb opportunities for multidisciplinary research. Many of the researchers are leaders in their fields and have received both national and international awards. Substantial external funding is received by the Institute including awards from the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust and the Wellbeing Charity.
