MRes in Experimental Physiology & Drug Discovery
A unique 12 month full-time course offering training in the comparative anatomy, physiology and pharmacology of laboratory animals, a Home Office Personal licence and hands-on experience of a range of in vivo techniques used in research. All students undertake a substantial 21 week research project in endocrinology, neuroscience, metabolism, respiratory, cardiovascular, inflammation or host defence. Students have the opportunity to interact with research scientists from the pharmaceutical industry.

the ability to perform the physiological and pharmacological studies in drug development
Content and Structure
Part A: Animal handling, Home Office training course, comparative anatomy and physiology, experimental design and statistical analysis and drug discovery.
Part B: Seven practical modules focused on in vivo research skills (problem solving, e-learning, journal club and lectures).
Part C: 21 week in vivo research project
Career opportunities
The course is primarily designed to prepare students for an academic or industrial research career. It will provide broad research training in practical in vivo functional biology for those wishing to undertake further research training at PhD level. The skills acquired will also be of value for those wishing to pursue a career in industrial drug development.
