4th Annual Symposium 2011 - How to Succeed in Science

How to Succeed in Science was the theme for CIMPP's 4th Annual Symposium with talks and discussion on how to get published, what funding opportunities are available and where a career in research might lead.  Speakers included:

  • Philip Campbell – Editor, Nature
  • Peter Stern - Senior Editor, Science
  • Kathryn Chapman - Programme Manager, NC3Rs
  • Simon Vincent - Head of Personal Awards Funding, Cancer Research UK
  • Clare McVicker, Science Portfolio Advisor, Wellcome Trust
  • Sarah Joseph – Senior Scientist, Medical Research Council
  • Mark Christie, BBSRC Industrial Impact Fellow.

 

Students presented posters of their in-vivoresearch and competed for two prizes:

  1. The AstraZeneca Prize for the Best MRes Poster for the best communication of research was awarded to Katie Baker  - "Imaging receptor microdomains on leukocyte subsets in live mice using intravital microscopy."
  2. The Impact Prize for the poster with the most potential for publication was awarded to Madhuri Salker - "Deregulated activity of the serum and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase SGK1 in the endometrium causes reproductive failure."
