The Stem Cell Biology groups study the biology of embryonic stem cells, both human and mouse, and fetal mesenchymal stem cells.
Basic research programmes include the elucidation of signalling pathways and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate self-renewal and cell fate determination. We are particularly interested in early embryo development and the differentiation of neuronal and hepatic lineages.
In parallel we are studying the potential for fetal stem cell therapy in a number of mouse models of disease. In addition to working together with researchers at IRDB, we have active collaborations with other researchers and clinicians in the other departments of Imperial College, MRC Clinical Science Centre and other universities nationally and internationally.
