Combining  the skills of engineers with those of surgeons a range of new tools have been designed to facilitate significant improvements in surgical and medical techniques, leading to clinical benefits for patients and cost savings for health care providers.  Each of the five devices harness the power and accuracy of radiofrequency energy and have been designed and tested for specific applications in patients.

The devices have been designed to be single use disposable items and are energised by connection to most standard RF generators directing heat more efficiently and more quickly than current technology. The power generated can be controlled to deliver precise treatments and has the capability of sealing blood vessels and coagulating tissue.  The technology can be applied to a range of interventional options including open, laparoscopic, endoscopic surgery and percutaneous procedures.

The Habib 4X, 2X, and 4X Laparoscopic devices for bloodless vascular organ resection were developed at Imperial College London and have been licensed to AngioDynamics Inc. 

The Hexablate

The Hexablate is a surgical instrument designed to specifically target the periphery of a  tumour where cells most likely to metastasise reside. The device is bipolar making it faster and safer than equivalent monopolar equipment.

The Endoblate is a catheter delivered to the target area with an endoscope.  It has the potential to treating patients for whom surgical debulking of gastrointestinal tumours would not previously have been an option.  

The EndoHPB

The EndoHPB

The EndoHPB allows palliative destruction of tissue causing obstructions in vessels and ducts, for example biliary cancer. It also has the potential to aid with delivery of other therapeutic options such as targeted chemotherapy, unlike a passive stent which does not treat, but merely allows patency to be restored.

The VesCoag

The VesCoag

The VesCoag is a catheter designed for use in interventional radiology to enable precise closure (compared with coils) of both veins and arteries to treat either haemorrhage or block blood supply to tumours.
