Pre-operative Planning

Correct sizing and positioning of implants is one of the most important variables determining outcome of arthroplasty procedures. Errors will have adverse effects on patient function and durability of the implant. To achieve this preoperative planning is essential.

However X-rays are widely used for planning joint replacements, perspective distortion and variable magnification (8-20%) make them inaccurate and not reproducible.

Our solution, currently in clinical practice, involves the application of:

  1. Low radiation dose CT scanning to define the normal anatomy and how it changes in different patterns of disease
  2. 3D imaging computer technology to plan the joint replacement
Scans
