Monday 24th – Thursday 27th July 2006
Hammersmith Hospital Campus, London

Aims:

To demonstrate modern methods of gene analysis through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practical laboratory work.

Attendees:

For those in the medical or allied professions, and laboratory scientists wishing to develop and expand their understanding of the principles and applications of molecular biological technologies applied to medicine.

Topics Covered:

    • PCR - Theory and Practice (Lectures and Practical)
    • DNA Sequence Analysis (Lectures and Practical)
    • Real Time PCR for Gene Expression (Lectures and Demonstrations)
    • Microarray Analysis for Gene Expression (Lectures and Lab Visits)
    • Bioinformatics Analysis (Lectures and Computer Practical)

The course is intended to present the scope and extraordinary potential which the molecular biology techniques of DNA analysis in the new millennium promises in medical fields such as cancer, haematology, inherited diseases and infectious diseases.

This four-day course has developed from the practical components of the extremely successful MSc in Molecular Medicine, which has been running at Hammersmith since 1996.

Course Fee:  £850 (£750 if registered before 1st July)

The laboratory programme will allow participants to gain ‘hands on’ experience of:

  • Isolation of total genomic DNA
  • PCR amplification of DNA
  • DNA restriction enzyme digestion and agarose gel electrophoresis
  • Fluorescent DNA sequencing methods.
