Dr Fred Tam's Laboratory

Dr. Tam’s group has been interested in the role cytokines in the pathogenesis and treatment of glomerulonephritis. Focused areas include the role of anti-inflammatory cytokines and cytokine antagonists in treatment of glomerulonephritis, and development of novel low molecular weight inhibitors of cytokine synthesis. Moreover, they have been involved in studying alternative clinical methods of following disease activity in patients with glomerulonephritis, specifically focusing on urinary proteomics and cytokine measurement.

In collaboration with Dr. Edwina Brown, the importance of cytokines and adhesion molecules in the deterioration of peritoneal membrane functions in peritoneal dialysis patients are being investigated.
