Sir Roy M Anderson FRS FMedSci
Chair in Infectious Disease Epidemiology
I recently completed a 3 year secondment to the Ministry of Defence as Chief Scientific Adviser. My research interests include: within host interaction between pathogens and the immune system; spread, persistence and transmission dynamics of genotypes within pathogen populations; impact and control of diseases within communities.

Professor Maria-Gloria Basanez
Professor of Neglected Tropical Diseases
My research, funded by the MRC, focuses on epidemiology and control of helminthiases in general, and population biology of indirectly-transmitted macroparasites in particular, with emphasis on River Blindness. My interests range from vector biology and transmission studies, to development of mathematical models to aid control policy. I also organise our MSc in Modern Epidemiology.

Dr Simon Cauchemez
Snr Lecturer in Statistical Infectious Disease Epi
I am interested in the development of sound methods for the analysis of epidemic data, with the aim to i) get insights on transmission dynamics, ii) support decision making and iii) optimize control policies. Since the start of the flu A(H1N1) pandemic, I have been involved in a range of analyses aiming at better characterizing the epidemiology of the virus.

Dr Thomas S Churcher
Junior Research Fellow
My research focuses on the use of mathematical models to understand the epidemiology and control of malaria. Of particular interest is how the biology of the parasite will influence the resilience of the parasite to the success of different control interventions. This work spans a number of other parasitic infections, including onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases.

Professor Christl A Donnelly
Professor of Statistical Epidemiology
I combine statistical and biomathematical methods to analyze epidemiological patterns of infectious diseases (SARS, BSE/vCJD, FMD, bovine TB). The aim is improve understanding of (and ability to predict) the effects of different interventions and thereby better inform the design of control strategies. One of my key roles has been the Deputy Chair of the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB.

Professor Neil M Ferguson
Professor of Mathematical Biology
My research aims to understand the epidemiological factors shaping infectious disease transmission in human and animal populations. A key practical focus is aiding disease control policy making through intervention modelling. Recent work has considered the containment and mitigation of emergent infectious diseases such as pandemic influenza, smallpox, avian influenza and foot and mouth disease.

Professor Christophe Fraser
Professor of Theoretical Epidemiology
I research the population biology of infectious diseases, and develop applied methods for use in the public health arena, using a spectrum of tools ranging from simple mathematical models to complex computer simulations. Specific projects are in HIV, emerging infections (including influenza pandemics) and bacterial evolution.

Professor Geoffrey P Garnett
Professor of Microparasite Epidemiology
work on developing mathematical models of the transmission dynamics of sexually transmitted infections. My major goals are to incorporate quantitative data describing patterns of sexual contacts into models exploring the spread of sexually transmitted infections and to develop models of interventions which take account of the epidemiological context within which the infections spread.

Professor Azra C Ghani
Chair in Infectious Disease Epidemiology
I am an infectious disease epidemiologist with a background in mathematical modelling and statistics. My current focus is to develop models that can inform policies on how, where and when to implement different interventions against malaria to aid control and eventual local elimination of the parasite.
