Academic Neonatal Medicine

In Neonatal Medicine at Imperial College London, the focus is the newborn infant and the impact that care during the neonatal period has for adult health and well being. Our research encompasses the understanding of fundamental processes during normal development - with particular reference to the regulation of body composition, multi-centre clinical trials and population based epidemiology. We work closely with the NHS and have fruitful collaborations with the UK National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and several other academic institutions in the UK and abroad.Our work is funded by the Research Councils, research charities, the NHS and industry. Our base at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital campus of Imperial College is also home to the Neonatal Data Analysis Unit and the Neonatal Clinical Research office.

Our annual meeting, the Neonatal Update - the Science of Newborn Care, (http://www.symposia.org.uk/neonatal), is one of the largest in the Department of Medicine. The meeting brings basic science together with state-of-the-art clinical practice and attracts a capacity international audience.
