Sickness
Foundation Training absence due to sickness.
To progress from the first Foundation year (F1) to the second Foundation year (F2) and to gain full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), a trainee must have gained 12 months of approved Foundation Year 1 experience. If due to ill health, training time is lost during the F1 year, then the following GMC guidelines will apply :
The maximum GMC permitted sick leave per post is :
- Six-month placement. Four weeks absence from a placement or from the year (F1 post) as a whole.
- Four-month placement. Three weeks absence from individual placement and four weeks from the year (F1 post) as a whole).
These rules have also been adopted across the Foundation Year 2 so that two years experience is gained with a maximum of eight weeks leave in total, (four weeks in each Foundation year). Otherwise the training period must be extended.
Any trainee who discovers that they are likely to miss more training time than the total allowable should consult their Foundation Training Programme Director (FTPD) and Foundation School Manager immediately for advice.
