Entry requirements
Applications are welcomed from candidates with a first degree in an appropriate science subject. Candidates are expected to hold a good first degree (upper second class or better) from a UK university or an equivalent qualification if obtained outside the UK.
Applications
Please be aware that the MRes in Biomedical Research receives a large volume of applications each year. Early application is strongly advised.
There are seven streams which run within the MRes in Biomedical Research and each applicant must choose the stream for which they would like to be considered.
The application method for the course differs depending on your chosen stream.
- Doctoral Training streams are those which are linked to 4-year PhD studentships (1 year Masters + 3 year PhD) and do not accept independent applications. Please note that while the MRes in Biomedical Research will accept course applications up until the end of July 2012, the PhD studentships are likely to have much earlier deadlines for application.
- Open streams are those which are either not linked to studentships of any kind, or those which are linked to a studentship but also accept independent applications from those who are able to fund their studies. If you are already the recipient of funding such as a scholarship or studentship, you are welcome to apply for one of our open streams but please let us know in your personal statement the details of your funding (e.g. Marshall Scholarship, 1+3 MRC Studentship).
Applying to open streams
Applicants must apply online. All applications are made to the MRes in Biomedical Research course (code A1BA). Please state clearly in the first sentence of your personal statement the stream for which you wish to be considered.
The open streams offered on the course are:
- Biomedical Research
- Personalised Healthcare (linked to a studentship but accepts independent applications)
- Microbial Pathogenesis
- Respiratory and Cardiovascular Science (linked to a studentship but accepts independent applications)
Applying to Doctoral Training streams
Applicants wishing to apply for a Doctoral Training stream must first submit an application for the relevant studentship to be considered. It is only after the studentships have been awarded that the successful recipients will be asked to submit an online application for the MRes in Biomedical Research (code A1BA).
Applications for these streams which are independent of the associated studentships are unfortunately unable to be considered.
The Doctoral Training streams offered on the course are:
- Cardiovascular Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine (applications now closed)
- Biomedicine and Bioengineering in Osteoarthritis - please see the 'How to apply' section on the stream overview page for details about applying for the studentship
- Inflammation Science - please contact Matthew Pickering / Rita Andrews to apply
