 Hepatitis C virus infection

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes major changes to infected liver cells to facilitate the production of new virus particles. We are interested in understanding the how HCV can alter key metabolic pathways involved in lipid metabolism and how it can disrupt the normal innate host immune defences and the cell cycle.

This work should help to identify key processes in the remodelling of liver cells which occurs during HCV infection. These changes initiate the development of chronic liver disease. Understanding these underlying mechanisms should identify potential targets for novel antiviral intervention as well as improved therapy to reduce disease pathogenesis.

Specialities work is relevant to: Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Infectious Diseases.
