Role of G protein-coupled receptors in gonadotrophin signalling

Folllicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinising hormone (LH) and chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) activate signalling from two distinct G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), the FSH receptor (FSHR) and LH/hCG receptor (LHR) that are essential in maintaining normal human reproduction. Conversely disordered LHR and FSHR signalling is known to underlie reproductive disorders. Our program of work focuses on how these hormone receptors regulate signal transduction of reproductive pathways, by studying the molecular basis of signal regulation from GPCRs. As drugs that target GPCRs represent the core of modern medicine, identifying molecular networks that regulate these receptors are targets for devising novel therapeutic strategies.
