Venue and travel
The Immunology Short Course is being held at the Hammersmith Conference Centre on the site of the Hammersmith Hospital. The conference centre is a new bespoke facility officially which opened on July 5th 2007. State of the art audio-visual equipment is combined with bright and airy lecture rooms making this an ideal place for our course.
As with many London hospitals the name is misleading - the hospital is not in Hammersmith but between White City and East Acton. Maps of the Hammersmith Hospital Site are provided here for orientation. Immunology Short Course Venue

We highly recommend that delegates travel to the site using public transport - car parking space is very limited and charges apply. Information about public transport is given below.
Travelling from outside London
Road: The easiest way to access the venue by road is from the west, via the A40. View the above venue maps for orientation and try the AA website or Google maps for directions.
Car Parking Charges at the veune are £0.90 for 30 minutes so please remember bring plenty of change with you.
Air: Several airports serve London - the Short Course venue can be reached from any of them. Heathrow is the closest airport and the recommended route from Heathrow to the venue is given below:
In the airport make your way to London Underground station. and take the Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith. When you get off the tube at Hammersmith you will find yourself in a shopping centre. Make your way to the bus station, above the shopping centre (access via escalator or lift), where you should take either the Number 72 or the Number 283 (although this a longer route) going towards East Acton.
(Please note that there is also an overland train "Heathrow Express" from Heathrow to Paddington mainline station. The overall journey using the Heathrow Express will take approximately 1 hr but involves more changes and costs more).
Approximate journey time: 1hr 20 min
Rail: There are several mainline railway stations in London (see the National Rail website to help plan your journey). The closest to the venue is Paddington station. The suggested route from Paddington to the venue, is given below:
The London Underground can be accessed from within Paddington station. Make your way to the Circle and District Line platforms and take the Circle Line towards High Street Kensington or District Line towards Wimbledon. At Nottinghill Gate change for a Westbound Central Line train. At White City get off the tube, exit the station and cross the road at the pedestrian crossing immediately outside the station. On the other side of the road turn right and walk towards the cross roads. At the cross roads go straight over (at the pedestrian crossing) and walk in front of BBC White City where you will see a bus stop. At the bus stop you can take the 72, 283 or 272 towards the hospital (ask the driver to let you know when to get off). The bus stops on the opposite side of the road to the hospital.
Approximate journey time: 45 min
Transport Within London
Although we regularly complain about it, London transport is extensive and on the whole, very reliable!
Underground stations within walking distance of the Short Course venue are White City (15 min walk) and East Acton (10 min walk) on the Central Line. However, in inclement weather and on winter evenings we recommend the frequent bus services that run from immediately outside the hospital to the White City underground station (72 and 272), Shepherds Bush (72 and 272), Hammersmith underground and bus station (72 and 283), Paddington (7) and into town (Oxford Circus; 7). Another bus that stops outside the hospital is the 70.
You can find your way to the Immunology Short Course from anywhere within London Zones 1-6, by tube, foot, bus, boat or bike, using the Journey Planner (Hospital Postcode: W12 0HS) provided by Transport for London.
