Histopathology Short Courses

 The department offers a variety of specialist short courses, which include:

  • Diagnostic Histopathology of Breast Disease
  • Diagnostic Dermatopathology
  • Advanced Haematopathology
  • Cellular and Molecular Biology of Cancer
  • Surgical Pathology

All courses are held at Hammersmith Hospital.  You can access here directions to the Hospital and a map of the Campus

Advanced Clinical Cytopathology

1-6 February 2010

This course is a 5 day course designed to for pathologists in training or with a special interest in cytology as well as senior cytologists. The course focuses on exfoliative and FNA cytology as well as on cervical cytology with histological correlations. Cases will be seen at the microscope by the students and discussed in the afternoon by the experts. The students will have temporary access to the cytology course on the Imperial website which covers gynaecological, thyroid, effusions, respiratory, urines, head and neck and lymph node cytology.

Surgical Pathology

8-19 February 2010

This two-week course is designed for Consultants and Registrars in training who are interested in recent developments in Histopathology.  The course will consist of a series of ten daily slide seminars, organised on a systematic basis.  Cases will include both common and unusual processes affecting each system, with discussion of morphology as well as special diagnostic techniques.

Diagnostic Dermatopathology

21st - 25th April 2008

A comprehensive week long course in the histopathology of the skin, designed for pathologists who have to report diagnosti dermatopathology professionally and for dermatologists with a special interest in dermatopathology.  The course will be suitable for consultants and registrars in training and will be oriented towards the differential diagnosis of common dermatological disorders.

Advanced Haematopathology

28th April - 2nd May 2008

This course is designed for haematologists and histopathologists with a special interest in haematopathology.  The course focuses on the cellular and molecular pathology of the haemopoietic and lymphoid system with emphasis on microscopy and interpretation.  The course includes microscopic evaluation of test cases and interpretation of immunohistochemistry by the participants, followed by discussion and review with the panel of experts.

Diagnostic Histopathology of Breast Disease

12th - 15th May 2008

This four day long course on the Hammersmith Campus is designed for pathologists at Consultant and Senior Trainee level and is suitable for the final examination for MRCPath.  The course will provide a comprehensive coverage of the histopathology of breast disease, with special emphasis on areas which pose diagnostic difficulties.
