Feedback
Feedback is routinely provided to students throughout their course.
In Years 1 and 2 students undertake formative examinations. These provide opportunities for students to gauge their own progress and allow them to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Each student has a feedback session following their first formative examination. Problem Based Learning tutors also provide formative feedback to students at the end of each term, and written feedback is provided from the Communication Skills programme and the Patient Contact Course formative coursework.
Within Year 4 (BSc), feedback on oral presentations is given immediately. Detailed feedback on written work is normally available within 2-3 weeks of submission. Students are encouraged to discuss any issues about their coursework with their BSc Tutors.
During Years 3, 5 and 6 end of firm assessments of individual student performance are completed by the Firm Leaders (or another appropriate senior supervisory member of the team) after most clinical attachments. Both the student and consultant/supervisor sign these and the assessment is discussed. Where a student receives a less than satisfactory assessment, their Clinical Tutor is notified and asked to meet with the student to discuss any issues raised. The Clinical Tutor is asked to submit a report of that meeting to the Undergraduate Medicine Office and report on any follow-up action. Where relevant, this is passed onto the Head of Pastoral Care.
The Education Sub-Committee Years 3,5 & 6 agreed the following remedial teaching for students re-taking final MBBS examinations
