Results
Official results are published by the College Registry, as stated in the academic regulations. The Undergraduate Medicine Office provides unofficial results to students, except in the circumstances where a student result has been pended. A student result will be pended if they are suspected of an exam irregularity or they have circumstances which prevent them from completing the exam. In each of these cases a report is made by the Undergraduate Medicine Office to the Examinations Sub-Board Chair, the student and the College Registry for action, as appropriate.
In Years 1 and 2 following the release of examination results Personal Tutors are expected to make themselves available to their tutees and to contact those who have failed. This contact is usually by email in the first instance to arrange a meeting. The Head of Pastoral Care may contact students who have failed, by email, to see if they can be of assistance.
Students who get very poor assessments from their clinical firms during Years 3, 5 and 6 are seen by their Clinical Tutor to discuss the causes and what can be done to improve the situation.
Students who fail Finals examinations are required to meet with the Head of Undergraduate Medicine to discuss the situation and agree a plan for the future. Students who fail any of the clinical written examinations are asked to meet with the chief examiner of the relevant paper to discuss performance and remedial measures.
Poor examination results for the cohort as a whole are brought to the attention of the relevant Examination Sub-Board for consideration and action, where appropriate.
