Faculty of Medicine

Complaints

For information the College procedure for dealing with complaints by students can be found here.

Complaints concerning decisions of Boards of Examiners

The student can either approach the Undergraduate Medicine Office or the Head of Pastoral Care to discuss the matter and will be referred to Registry. The Head of Pastoral Care is available to advise the student on all aspects of the student’s submission. The student can also seek advice and representation from their Personal/Clinical Tutor. If this internal appeal fails the student can take their case forward to the College Visitor.

Complaints Concerning the Course

The students are informed that any complaints concerning the course should be referred to the Student Education Representative for the year, who is elected by the students within that year group. If the Representative, after discussion with the Union President, deems the complaint to warrant a fuller discussion it will be taken forward to the Staff-Student Liaison Group for the appropriate year. Complaints concerning the course, that are upheld, are communicated to the appropriate course organiser (usually they sit on the Staff-Student Liaison Group). They are expected to make appropriate changes, or explain why changes are not possible, at the next meeting of the Staff-Student Liaison Group. This process is monitored by the relevant Education Sub-Committee.

Complaints concerning Personal/Clinical Tutors

On an individual level if a student is dissatisfied with the support they are receiving from their Personal/Clinical Tutor they are advised to contact the Head of Pastoral Care who will help the student and/or change the Personal/Clinical Tutor. This is explained in the student welcome pack.

If a student is not happy with the service received from the Head of Pastoral Care they can make an appointment to see one of the Senior College Tutors. This is explained to the students in their introductory lectures and in their welcome pack.
