Faculty of Medicine

Management of Quality Standards

The Head of Undergraduate Medicine has overall responsibility for the MBBS/BSc programme. Policy, decision-making and reporting processes are managed through the Undergraduate Medicine Committee Structure. The Faculty has formal procedures in place for maintaining and enhancing the quality of provision. These procedures involve input from students, Imperial staff, NHS colleagues and external parties in order to give our quality assurances procedures the required breadth, depth and rigour.

Our quality assurance procedures are informed by documentation and institutional reviews undertaken by the Quality Assurance Agency. The QAA's most recent institutional audit of Imperial was carried out in June 2005.

In addition, the General Medical Council (GMC) sets and monitors the standard of medical education. The process by which the GMC ensures that these standards are maintained is called quality assurance of basic undergraduate medical education (QABME). Imperial was visited by the GMC during the 2007-08 academic year. The report is available on the GMC website
