Internal Review of Undergraduate Medicine - January 2005
All undergraduate courses at Imperial College are reviewed regularly through a formal College mechanism. Each year the Quality and Academic and Review Committee (QARC) conducts a review of two or three departments’ degree programmes. In December 2004 and January 2005, Imperial College organised an internal review of the MBBS/BSc course.
Four external reviewers were appointed to conduct a review of the MBBS/BSc course. Documentation about the course was provided to the reviewers in December 2004 in the form of a self-evaluation document.
The review team visited the College and its associated NHS teaching partners on 19th and 20th January 2005. During their visit they met teachers and students from the MBBS/BSc and observed teaching in action. They also met with other key Faculty of Medicine staff to discuss the organisation and delivery of the programme.
The external assessors each provided independent reports to the Undergraduate Studies Committee. The Committee reviewed these reports and the response from the School of Medicine to QARC before submitting a report and recommendations for action to the Senate. Twelve months after the report to the Senate the Principal will advise the Quality and Academic Review Committee on the steps taken to act upon its report and recommendations.
