Annual NHLI/RBHT Paul Wood Cardiovascular Lecture
The Annual NHLI/RBHT Paul Wood Cardiovascular Lecture was founded in 2006 as a collaboration between the National Heart and Lung Institute and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.
It is run annually, normally in October and is held in the Paul Wood Lecture Theatre, at the Royal Brompton Campus of the National Heart and Lung Institute.
2011 - Professor Christine Seidman
2011's event took place on Thursday 16 June 2011. Professor Christine Seidman presented her talk 'Next generation sequencing: a revolution for cardiovascular genetics'.
The lecture was sponsored by the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and the National Heart and Lung Institute.
2010 - Professor Valentin Fuster
2010's event was exceptionally held in March (25 March 2010) to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the late Professor Philip Poole-Wilson.
Following a day of poster presentations by junior scientists, along with scientific debates and presentations that made up the Symposium in memory of Philip, Professor Valentin Fuster, Director, Mount Sinai Heart School of Medicine, New York, USA presented his talk entitled 'Subclinical atherothrombosis: scientific challenges at the basic, clinical, and population levels'.
The lecture was sponsored by Medtronic, the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and the National Heart and Lung Institute.
2008 - Professor Gary Francis
On Thursday 2 October 2008, Professor Gary Francis, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, USA presented his talk entitled 'The Cardio-Renal Syndrome: How Do the Heart and the Kidneys Communicate?'.
The lecture was sponsored by the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and the National Heart and Lung Institute.
2007 - Professor Gary Webb
The second Annual NHLI/RBHT Cardiovascaulr Paul Wood Lecture was presented by Professor Gary Webb, Director, Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, USA. He presented his talk entitled 'The Legacy of the Royal Brompton and National Heart Hospitals to the Care of Congenital Heart Defects'.
The lecture was held on Wednesday 17 October 2007 and sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and the National Heart and Lung Institute.
2006 - Professor Robert Bonow
The inaugural lecture was presented by Professor Robert (Bob) Bonow, Goldberg Distinguished Professor of Cardiology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, USA who presented his talk 'New windows into the heart: Cardiovascular imaging from molecules to patients'.
The lecture was held on Wednesday 11 October 2006 and sponsored by Siemens, Bristol Myers Squibb, the St Cyres Fund, the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust and the National Heart and Lung Institute.
