Cardiovascular studies unit
Professor Neil Poulter, Principal Investigator
The Cardiovascular Studies Unit is part of the Disease Prevention section of the National Heart and Lung Institute of Imperial College London. The aim of CVSU is to design, carry out and analyse studies relating to the aetiology, prevention and management of cardiovascular disease. This unique unit runs morbidity/mortality trials such as ASCOT (see Lancet 2003;361:1149-1158) and ADVANCE.
As well as collaborating with other groups within Imperial College, the unit's research remit also encompasses epidemiological studies, screening and cohort studies, prevention studies (the St Mary's Hospital Discharge Audit), and clinical investigations, as well as providing PhD student placements, and teaching (Epidemiology and Prevention, CV BSc).
