Leukocytes within a post-capillary venule in inflammation
This Vascular Science group studies the underlying mechanisms of inflammatory vascular diseases, with a view to therapeutic target identification and molecular imaging. The group is particularly interested in defining endogenous cytoprotective and homeostatic mechanisms, both in immune systems and in the intracellular signalling pathways of vascular endothelial cells and macrophages.
Main disease priorities are:
- Atherosclerosis
- Systemic inflammation related to cardiac surgery
- Vascular complications of rheumatic diseases (eg SLE, Takayasu’s arteritis and Behçet’s syndrome)
- Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs).
Research groups
Dr Joseph Boyle - Macrophage Differentiation
Dr Paul Evans - Intracellular Signalling
Professor Dorian Haskard - Vascular Inflammation
Professor Justin Mason - Endothelial Cell Cytoprotection
Dr Anna Randi - Endothelial Homeostasis
Dr Claire Shovlin - Pulmonary Vascular Group
