Cardiothoracic Pharmacology
Professor Jane Mitchell, Head of Group
Kate Parzych, NHLI Foundation PhD Student
Cardiothoracic Pharmacology is a multi-discipline group engaged in the study of inflammatory pathways in the cardiovascular and respiratory system. We are particularly interested in how vasoactive genes, including NOS, ET-1 and COX influence health and disease and in how the inflammatory isoforms of these genes are induced after activation of pattern recognition receptors, including Toll like receptors.
Our approach is translational and therapeutic areas of interest include sepsis, thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension and COPD. We are particularly successful at using a bioassay approach to understand research problems.
Current members of the group, listed on the right hand side, include MRes and PhD Students, including basic scientists and clinical fellows as well as postdoctoral researchers.
