Postgraduate Research at NHLI

NHLI is an ideal environment to undertake research.  Its strengths cover basic, translational and clinical applied science. Its academics are leaders in the disciplines of Biophysics, Cell Biology, Clinical Studies, Epidemiology, Genetics and Genomics, Health Services Research, Imaging, Pharmacology, Physiology, Public Health, Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine and Toxicology.

NHLI supervisors are outstanding scientists and leaders in their field and several have recently been commended for their excellence through the Rector's Award for Excellence in Research Supervision as well as the Rector's Award for Pastoral Care.

Over the last 10 years, over 650 students have undertaken research degrees within NHLI, which prides itself in the support and training it provides to all its trainees.

NHLI currently hosts more than 180 research students registered for Masters’ courses, PhDs and MD(Res) degrees.  Students and fellows come from many backgrounds, both basic and clinical, creating a student body rich in opportunities for scientific exchange and collaborations.

The Institute welcomes applications with appropriate qualifications from around the world. There are a number of routes to obtaining an MD(Res) or PhD position, including '1+3' programmes, within the Institute, described below:
