Health Informatics Programme

The health informatics research programme in the department includes studies funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), EPSRC, NIHR, and European Union. The research programme aims to use e-science, GRID technologies and high performance computing facilities to analyse large data sets derived from electronic patient records. The programme  also aims to support the recruitment and follow-up of patients in clinical trials and epidemiological studies. The project is a collaboration with the Department of Computing at Imperial College.  Other projects include iHealth, funded by  EPSRC, which aims to use information technology to develop optimised patient management pathways, and a PhD programme in health informatics.

Use of IT in Patient Safety

This project aims to examine the use of information technology to improve patient safety. This includes a systematic review for Connecting for Health and work in collaboration with WHO Patient Safety.
