General Practice Student Assistantship
Course co-ordinators: Dr Jenny Lebus and Dr Sian Powell
The General Practice Student Assistantship equips students with an understanding of the work of a General Practitioner and the Primary Health Care team.
Its focus on communication between primary and secondary care prepares students for their future work as a Foundation Year Doctor.
What happens?
Students complete a three-week residential attachment with an introduction and debrief in the Department. In most cases students stay with their GP teachers, or someone from the practice, but this isn't a requirement.
Students perform a GP surgery on their own but under supervision, have a session on-call, do a clinical audit and write up some case-based discussions.
