Primary Care and Social Medicine
A major goal of the Department’s research programme is to further understanding of the factors which determine health and health behaviour and those aspects of local contexts, health systems and political economies which condition and constrain successful implementation of proven health interventions and technologies. The techniques used to address research questions in this area include qualitative and quantitative behavioural research, descriptive and normative ethical analysis, epidemiological studies, health economics research, and health policy and health services research.
The staff in the Department have a broad range of scientific skills including epidemiology, public health, sociology, health policy, health services research, clinical medicine and statistics.
