Academic Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Mary's
Situated next door to Paddington station, St Mary’s provides health services for 350,000 peole from many nationalities and cultures who live and work in West London. We currently deliver approximately 4,500 women per year and offer a home birth and domino birth facility which is available to women with low risk pregnancies. In 2008 a new Birthing Centre embedded within this teaching hospital was opened and is led by a Consultant Midwife. Those women with high risk pregnancies benefit from the specialist obstetric services provided, including a recurrent miscarriage clinic, diabetic and specialist medical clinics, a fetal medicine unit and a Maternity Day Care facility that is open 7 days per week.
St Mary’s offers a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gynaecology service. The Emergency Gynaecology facility caters for 4,500 patients per year who are referred by their general practitioner or the A&E department at the hospital with Early Pregnancy or acute gynaecological problems. The Colposcopy service is one of the largest in London seeing 1800 new patients per year and is complemented by the Rapid Access and Gynaecology Oncology follow up clinics. Further specialist services include Reproductive Endocrinology , Infertility, Menopause, Termination fo pregnancy, Urogynaecology, Endometriosis, Uterine Fibroid, Minimal Access surgery and the internationally renowned Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic.
