Cell Culture & Molecular Toxicology
In vitro experimentation plays a crucial role in understanding biochemical phenomena at the cellular level and are highly complementary to top-down approaches for systems biology.
Metabolites are highly translatable between species and provide a link for translating results between in vitro experiments, the clinic, and epidemiological cohorts.

Biomolecular Medicine has an established cell culture laboratory with an excellent track record in molecular toxicology. Prof. Nigel Gooderham has overseen the developments in the area with a focus on chemical carcinogenesis research. In additional to regular the cell culture laboratory equipment, Biomolecular Medicine has a number of specialised instruments to allow integrated molecular toxicology and metabonomic analyses:
- Controlled O2 / CO2 level incubation facilities
- RT-PCR
- Immortalized cell line library
