Biomolecular Medicine have an excellent track record in the innovation, development and novel application of spectroscopic techniques to characterise biological samples.
NMR and MS-based platforms are the main players in metabolic profiling and in combination with high-throughput robotic solutions, or combined using hyphenation systems, can deliver information-rich profile datasets describing complex biofluid samples.
To aid the visualisation and interrogation of the complex datasets that are generated by metabonomics platforms, an array of advanced chemometric tools are needed, especailly when data are to be integrated with physicochemical molecular properties for the purposes of structure-activity relationship development.
Metabolites are not the whole story. Understanding protein structure gives a better understanding of function and helps. High-qualtity crystallography work is the fundamental requirement for efficient protein structural analysis by common X-ray diffaction methods.
