London Postgraduate School of Surgery Endovenous Workshop 2012
Date: 17th July 2012
A whole day workshop on the latest in endovenous therapy for varicose veins which will combine talks and hands on experience for endovenous laser, radiofrequency ablation and non-heat based ablation techniques guided by expert proctors. The use of ultrasound in endovenous surgery will be covered and all attendees will receive a laser safety certificate. Limited to 20 spaces with priority given to London Deanery trainees.
ENT Launches New Surgical Skills Programme
Structured laboratory surgical skills training is now being offered to all London Deanery ENT surgical trainees. Sessions are held monthly in Clinical Skills at Imperial College, Paddington, London W2 1NY.
Topics to-date include rhinology (using sheep's heads) and bronchoscopy (using both a simulated model and a pig's torso). Future topics will include dissection of the temporal bone.
The clinical leads for this Programme are Mr. Tolley and Mr. Awad.
London Denary Annual Feedback Week
24 January-31 January 2012
Over the period of the 24th to the 31st of January, ST3 and ST4 trainees are asked to come to the Skills Lab for a two-hour feedback session. All participants will need to book a three-hour slot (either 09.00-12.00 or 13.00-16.00) on any weekday during the period of 24-31 January 2012 to perform a number of taught surgical procedures. The procedures to be performed on the day will be picked from the list of General/Junior sessions and they will not be revealed in advance to the trainees. Performances will be scored by independent assessors using structured criteria. Your participation is compulsory and the Training Programme Directors expect you to attend!

London Deanery Energy Sources in Surgery - Feb 22nd 2012, 9am-5pm
New Study Day Opportunity Sponsored by Covidien
Following the success of the Energy Sources Day in December, Mr. Willson and Covidien have offered to repeat the workshop on Wednesday 22nd February 2012 in Clinical Skills, 2nd Floor Paterson Wing, St Marys Hospital, Paddington. All London Deanery General Surgical ST3-ST6 trainees are eligible for a free place. Please email Megan Roy m.roy@imperial.ac.uk to confirm your place.
The day will be broken into a series of lectures and dry lab hands-on sessions when attendees can use or see demonstrated the energy devices described (excluding laser).

London Deanery Surgical Skills Programme Endovenous Workshop 2012
Monday 20th February 2012
This course will provide a comprehensive overview of endovenous management of varicose veins and provide opportunity for hands on simulation practice for endovenous laser and radiofrequency ablation techniques. Ultrasound techniques for venous intervention will also be covered. This course is aimed at ST5 to ST6 and vascular fellows. A total of 16 spaces are available.
