It is increasingly recognised that clinicians must not only possess good technical skills but should also be proficient in a variety of interpersonal and cognitive skills. In emergency medicine these non-technical skills are vital.
Efforts to improve non-technical skills in this area have focused on the critically ill patient.
Our research focuses on the non-technical skills that an emergency medicine physician requires for the day-to-day running of the department, which we regard as equally important.
