Major Incident Planning is a national requirement for NHS trusts and other emergency services, with frequent exercises to maintain skill levels, patient safety and preparedness. Field exercises and table top simulations are valuable training tools but have limitations. We set out to demonstrate the potential of disruptive virtual world technology to provide lower cost, direct access to simulated environments for many more staff. In this project we are developing and validating a virtual world exercise simulator, supported by funding from the Health Protection Agency.
