Robert Steiner MR Unit
The Robert Steiner Unit is a multi-disciplinary academic facility on the Hammersmith Hosptal campus which hosts a community of scientists and clinicians using imaging to investigate genetic, cardiovascular, neurological and metabolic causes of disease. We are based within the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and have collaborations with numerous fields of basic science including physics, mathematics and bioinformatics.
The Unit comprises a multinuclear 3T Philips system, which is fully equipped for fMRI studies, and a 32 channel 1.5T Philips system with state-of the-art cardiovascular and whole body capability. It is staffed by a consultant radiologist and experienced radiographers enabling complex clinical cases to be performed including dynamic contrast enhancement and adenosine stress perfusion. Our central location within Imperial College NHS Trust also enables us to perform studies on patients being investigated at the hospital. We are connected to NHS IT systems and have an advanced image management system which together enable confidential reporting of research studies alongside secure analysis capabilities.
