Faculty Education Office
Education is a core activity within the Faculty of Medicine, and supporting our 3,800 students is a large scale operation. The Faculty’s Schools, Institutes and Departments and our associated NHS Trusts all have devolved responsibility for the localised management and delivery of non-clinical and clinical education. However, the Faculty Education Office (FEO) provides the overall central point of management and administration.
The development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education is supported by approximately 50 members of management and administrative staff working across eight teams and divided over four campuses (South Kensington, Charing Cross, Hammersmith, and St Mary’s). The teams carry out a wide range of tasks including assisting with the organisation of the curriculum, organising and running examinations and assessments, co-ordination of learning resources and information systems, and the production of management information. The FEO is also responsible for quality assurance systems (student feedback and quality assurance visits), student welfare and liaison, the admissions process, foundation programmes for junior doctors, and the financial Service Increment for Teaching (SIFT). FEO teams work closely together and provide support and assistance to each other during peak periods.
A key responsibility of the FEO is to provide professional knowledge and expertise to support strategic planning and policy development. The team constantly strives to improve the student experience and the quality of education provision to ensure that our courses retain their world-class reputation. As well as managing business as usual, the FEO also supports College and Faculty educational initiatives and projects, and is currently developing a joint medical school venture in Singapore via The London Office of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
