Electives and Clinical attachments for undergraduate medical students
For final year/penultimate year undergraduate medical students
Guidance to applicants
- Guidance to applicants for Elective placements - includes revised information about English language proficiency and about visa applications - Tier 4 visa required for Non-EU/EEA students.
Faculty of Medicine, in conjunction with our partner NHS hospitals, is able to consider applications for clinical attachment elective study periods.
Due to high numbers of applications, Clinical Elective placements are restricted to a maximum period of 6 weeks per student and only ONE placement per student. If you have already been offered a placement, or have completed it, you will not normally be permitted to make application for a second Placement at a later date. Please note that UKBA are requiring Tier 4 visa for Non-EU/EEA/Swiss Nationals - see Guidance document.
Erasmus +: An applicant who is currently a student at a European university or college should note that since our clinical medicine training placements are limited to a maximum of 6 weeks (and a maximum of one placement period per successful applicant) Imperial College Faculty of Medicine cannot offer clinical training placements within the framework of the Erasmus + programme.
UK Medical School students on Tier 4 visa - read our guidance for Tier 4 applicants from UK Medical Schools on information required when you apply.
Please contact the relevant hospital for further details and application forms:
For non-EEA/Swiss nationals, UK Immigration Tier 4 visa requirements are in place. Please see the Imperial College International Student Support website for visa information:
Please note that Imperial College will require evidence of competency in English. Further details can be found on the Undergraduate English language requirements page:
