Michiyo Iwami is a Research Associate at the National Centre for Infection Prevention and Management (CIPM). She supports the team within work-stream 1, “Innovation Adoption & Behaviour Change”, working closely with Alison Holmes and Federica Secci. Michiyo will contribute to the EU-funded Prevention of Hospital Infections by Intervention & Training (PROHIBIT) project. Her involvement will be in WP4 and WP3 of the project. Michiyo will primarily contribute to the qualitative study of the project examining inhibitors to, and facilitators of, the adoption and implementation of Healthcare-associated Infection control practices within European hospitals.
Michiyo has previously worked as a Research Fellow in the Centre for Primary Health Care Studies at the University of Warwick. Her experience includes international primary care research focusing on organisational development. Field experience includes South American and Asian regions.
Michiyo obtained a PhD in Health and Social Studies from the University of Warwick. Her PhD research examined policy and political processes at multiple levels, and the consequences for sexual and reproductive health care development arising from the engagement of a major participatory model (CLAS) in Peru. It explored factors that facilitated or impeded Andean women’s participation in decision-making mechanisms.
Her main research interests are: international health systems, participation in decision-making mechanisms, reducing inequalities and inequities, and sexual and reproductive health.
