Dr Laura Garcia Alvarez is a post-doctoral researcher in Work-stream 3: Infection Surveillance which is using existing databases within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the NHS, the HPA and elsewhere to develop predictive models which will enable identification of at risk patients and effectively direct early intervention. This work-stream will also evaluate systems to monitor antibiotic resistance and prescribing practice which will provide information about front line antibiotic management decisions in support of antimicrobial policies.
The main purpose of Laura's post is to provide the work-stream with additional capacity. As such Laura contributes to the successful running of the research group including specifically providing support to existing staff (Dr Raunaque Hasnat – CIPM Data Manager) and to PhD students in the work-stream (Carina King and Rachel Freeman).
Background
Laura joins the Centre from the University of Cambridge Department of Veterinary Medicine where she was a post-doctoral researcher. Laura is a fully trained vet with a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology which she completed within the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Consortium (CIDC) which is based at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
