Dr Anna Ettorre
BRC Research Fellow within the section of Infectious Diseases and Immunity, Department of Medicine, Hammersmith Campus at Imperial College London.
Dr Ettorre obtained her PhD from the University of Siena, Italy. During her PhD studies and afterwards, Dr Ettorre studied apoptosis induction. She undertook her first post-doctoral position as “Assegnista di Ricerca” in the Department of Molecular Biology on an EU collaboration between the University of Siena, Italy and ETH Zurich, Switzerland. During this time she developed an interest in combining single cell analysis with proteomic approaches and in particular and how to develop novel tools by using phage display technology validate new biomarkers. Her second post-doctoral position was in the lab of Prof. Salim Khakoo, initially based at University of Southampton, subsequently relocating to Imperial College, developing reagents for analysis of natural killer cells.
With the creation of BRC-funded imaging facility to support translational research within Imperial College AHSC, Dr Ettorre was appointed to oversee the facility. Dr Ettorre’s primary interest remains in developing new functional approaches for single cell analysis using multi-parameter flow cytometry in molecular immunology and in cell biochemistry. She is also pursuing her own research on the role of HLA-C in susceptibility to multiple sclerosis. Dr Ettorre also lectures on MSc courses at Imperial and supervises a number of postgraduate students.
