Dr Anna M. Randi
Anna Randi is Reader in Cardiovascular Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute.
Dr. Anna Randi graduated from medical school at the University of Milan (Italy) and she went on to specialise in Haematology. She obtained her PhD with Prof P.M. Mannucci, on the molecular basis of von Willebrand Disease. As part of her scientific training, Dr Randi spent 3 years at Washington University, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, St. Louis, in Dr. Evan Sadler’s laboratory.
She then moved to the UK to take up a postdoctoral position for 2 years at Cancer Research UK, in Dr. Nancy Hogg’s laboratory. Here she was recruited by GlaxoSmithkline, where she was first Group Leader in Vascular Diseases and then Head of Translational Medicine in the Inflammation area. Whilst at GSK, Dr. Randi also held an honorary contract with Imperial College, and collaborated with Prof. Haskard and the British Heart Foundation on gene expression profiling of cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Randi moved to Imperial in 2003 as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in NHLI and was promoted to her current position in 2010.
Her research interests focus on vascular biology, in particular the role of endothelial cells in maintaining vascular health, and on human endothelial progenitor cells and their potential as translational tools in vascular diseases.
