Miss Alexandra J Williams
Having left the private sector, I joined Imperial College in August 2005. Before then I worked in the pharmaceutical industry supporting two Units as the P.A. and Technical Administrator to both the Head of Device Technology & the Head of Pulmonary Research within R & D for 3 years. Prior to that, I worked in the engineering industry as the Senior Administrator and Branch Office Support for a very large commercial company for 5 years. Coming from the private sector, my role at Imperial is very different to all other administrative roles previously encountered, which is why I enjoy the challenge more so!
The Department of Primary Care and Public Health lead by Professor Azeem Majeed is a fast moving and innovative Department. I currently act as the Deputy Departmental Manager, supporting Ms Alexandra Haighton. I also provide support for Principal Investigators with the costing of research grant proposals. When we win grants, I help to facilitate the Human Resource requirements and I help to ensure the researchers stick to the tight budgetory controls that each grant requires. I am also the first point of contact for any Association, Visiting Researcher or Honorarium agreements.
I have a BSc Honours Degree in Psychology and a MSc in Public Health. In particular, I have a keen interest towards identifying the health inequalities of children and young people. My MSc Dissertation looked at 'The effects of homelessness on the mental health of young people in the U.K' (as yet unpublished) exploring the link between Social Policy and Public Health.
My personal interests include going to the theatre, cooking and balancing out my activities with visits to the gym and running. I am a keen fundraiser which has developed from my interest in running and I like to encourage those who I work with to help raise money for various charities. To date I have raised money for the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research U.K., Disability Snowsport U.K. and The London Merchant Navy. During late September 2011, I recently achieved my latest goal which was to run and to complete the Nike Run to the Beat Half Marathon in order to raise money for the N.S.P.C.C.
