Miss Katarzyna Parzych
Katarzyna Parzych is a PhD student in Cardiothoracic Pharmacology group at the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI).
She completed a BSc in Biotechnology at Nicolas Copernicus University in Poland and moved to the UK to do an MSc degree in Medical Genetics at the Metropolitan University in London.
Katarzyna was awarded an NHLI Foundation studentship in October 2009 with which she is undertaking her PhD. Her current research area is investigating the role of toll-like receptors on cell proliferation and inflammasome activation, and effects of smoking on bacterial and viral infections in humans.
In December 2011, Katarzyna was awarded the prize for the best poster presented at the British Pharmacological Society meeting for her research entitled “Pharmacology of TLR2 and TLR4 agonists on IL-1β and CXCL8 release by human monocytes”.
