Dr Milad Masjedi

Milad studied Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at the Newcastle University-UK, where he was involved with a Formula 1 student project. He received his Master’s degree  in 2005 and although he attained a first class standing ,  and despite a genuine enthusiasm for this discipline, he decided to pursue his studies in Bioengineering instead. He started his PhD on a studentship funded by the Furlong Research Charitable Foundation under joint supervision of Prof Garth Johnson and Dr Sian Lawson from Newcastle University. His research involved finding the muscles and joints forces across the glenohumeral joint, using the custom developed Shoulder Model for subjects with reverse anatomy shoulder replacement. During this work he was involved in working closely with engineers, surgeons, occupational therapists and patients. He received his PhD degree in 2009 from Newcastle University.

In January 2010 Milad joined the orthopedic team at Imperial College London, working in the field of robotic surgery under the supervision of Prof Justin Cobb. His main focus is on the corrections of cam deformity often seen on young male athletes which has been shown to lead to the development of osteoarthritis in the hip.
